One Month Follow Up - Adoptions
CVAS sends a follow up letter after one month for every adoption of our residents. Staff and volunteers get so attached to the animals that enter our shelter, we love to see them finally find a home and be spoiled like they deserve!
We know our community gets attached to the residents and love to hear their success stories, so please enjoy the background on some recent adoptions!

Ellis
Ellis was our XL boy and former Longest Cat Resident, also one of the most unique cats we've had - a male tortie! Ellis was definitely a special boy - he liked what he liked, and he let us know when he was done with us! Ellis was too smart to be living in the shelter, he would get so bored and frustrated in his kennel that he would act out - which is a common occurance with long term residents. Unfortunatly that also meant he was not very popular with adopters. He wasn't even on the schedule to go home - his parents came in just to look and fell in love with him! Even though it took Ellis nearly a year to find his fur-ever home, he eventually found the perfect fit!
Trooper
You all may remember the 12 dogs we had come in from a cruelty case Christmas 2023. These dogs grew up in a shed, tied up in stalls with no access to the outside or human contact. He may have had a rocky start at life, and even his first few weeks at the shelter, but now he's a completely different boy! He gets to run in the open fields and play with his new people as much as he wants - which is more than we could have hoped for! It may have taken months for him to find his fur-ever home, but the wait was worth it!
Maurice
Maurice was such a sweet and goofy guy when he was a resident with us - always happy to see people and ready to play! He did have his share of quirks - one being not a big fan over other dogs. We took Maurice to our Strange Days Event to get him some exposure to the public and do his favorite thing - meet people. He ended up meeting his future mom - it was love at first sight! We now get updates occasionaly on how Maurice is doing in his new home - we love to see how former residents are doing! It's a bitter sweet part of the job. Maurice is definitly spoiled and so loved - we couldn't have asked for a better match up than Maurice and his mom!
Second Chance Stories
CVAS has a special fund for animals who are needing a "Second Chance" at life - dedicated to those who come in in need of emergency medical treatment. Thank you to everyone who has donated, as every monetary donation - no matter the amount - can save a life! We want our amazing community to see all the good they have done for not only the residents here, but the shelter as a whole. Below are some of our recent brave boys and girls, and a look into all they have overcome!
Daemon - "Puck"
Daemon entered the shelter abandoned by his owner, left untreated with Parvo - a highly contagious disease spread dog to dog by direct/indirect contact with feces. Vaccines can prevent this infection, but mortality can reach 91% in untreated cases! Daemon is an extremely lucky boy, and we were so grateful for our Second Chance fund that helped us pay for his recovery. Daemon was such a sweet and shy boy the moment he entered the shelter, and he had so much fight left in him even with the illness. He made a full recovery - with lots of love and treats along the way! Once he was ready for adoption, it didn't take long for one of our Senior Volunteers to fall in love and take him home! We couldn't have wished better for our brave boy Daemon!
Daisy
Daisy had entered the shelter as a puppy - originally named Nugget. When she was adopted, her new family were going to put her into training to be a service dog! Unfortunately, she was returned to the shelter when she needed surgery on her CCL after injuring herself. Her family understandably could not afford it. Daisy was evaluated by a specialist veterinarian, and it was determined that Daisy needed a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy - or TPLO - surgery on not one, but both of her back legs! A foster home was found so that Daisy could have her surgeries and recover in a calm enviroment instead of at the shelter. Her foster home did a wonderful job over the past several months of recovery from 2 surgeries, making sure that she had the best of care to heal and get a lot of TLC. Daisy has now been fully recovered and ready to find her forever home! She is a super sweet girl that has been a trooper throughout her surgeries and recovery! Without this Second Chance fund in place, Daisy would not be here today, and we couldn't be more thankful!
