What You Can do to Make a Difference
Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter is a Non-Profit Organization - this means our staff and residents rely on charitable donations for the upkeep and care of the animals! Please take a look below at what all you can do to support your local, homeless pets!
Donations
CVAS accepts both monetary and supply donations!
Below, we have listed what supplies we can take year round:
- Purina Dog & Puppy Food - wet and dry
- Purina Cat & Kitten - wet and dry
- Prescription Food/Treats
- Timothy Hay/Rabbit Food
- Soft Dog Treats
- HE Laundry Detergent
- Windex
- Trash Bags - 13 & 55 gal
- Feline Pine Litter/Equine Bedding Pellets
- Cat & Dog Nail Clippers + Flea Combs
We sincerely appreciate all the donations we receive and are thrilled that you opted to help our animals. Without the support from the community and thoughtful folks like you, we wouldn’t be able to function. We hope you understand that if a product is in great condition, we may opt to sell it at our thrift stores. The money we receive from sales at our stores goes to help the animals in our care. Thank you so much for your kindness!
Guardian Angel Program
Many people tell us they would love to adopt, but they can't - either it's not the right time in their lives or they can't have pets where they live. If you're in the same boat, but would still like to help the animals in our kennels, consider becoming a Guardian Angel for one - or more - of the residents here at CVAS!
More About Our Donations..
We work to keep any and all dyes out of our food -- it can cause stomach and skin irritation for some animals, so please make sure the food is only brown in color (no reds, greens, or odd colors).
We also only feed our animals products that have some kind of MEAT as the first ingredient. Anything else is just filler and not good for their systems.
CVAS's dogs and cats need as much consistency and good, quality nutrients in their diets as we can give them because many of them came to us from very unstable environments. Life on the streets, eating anything they could get their paws on, doesn't make for a healthy life or diet. We are so grateful for all the donations we receive that help our animals!

Often Asked Donation Questions
"Can you take food my pet doesn't like, the bag is already opened?"
Yes! We can accept any food that is already opened. As long as the food is not mixed - or if not in the original packaging - is clearly labeled, we can always accept it!
"Can you take my old blankets and towels?"
Yes! We are always accepting towels of any size - standard, dish, or washcloth. Along with blankets - as long as it can fit in a standard sized washer/dryer and is not to full of holes.
"Can you use medications?"
Yes! We never know what we will have come in to the shelter, so we can take any medications (as long as they have not been expired for to long). We also use empty medication bottles (primarily the orange tubes) to mix and store specific residents medications.
