Surrendering a Pet
Part of being a responsible pet owner is educating yourself about the animal and their needs, and committing to them for the duration of their life. Unfortunately, surrendering a pet may be the only solution which an owner can come to.
We ask that owners please try all other methods before resorting to shelters - as space is always limited.
Speak to family and friends, see if they can assume responsibility for the animal's care and well-being. Reach out via social media. There are also many private rescues and breed specific rescues to try.
If all else fails, we will try our best to see what we can do, but surrenders are dependent - and not guaranteed - on the space we have in our kennels.
Information to Know Before Surrendering
Surrender Fee
We are a Non-Profit shelter; which means all of our funding for the animals comes from donations and support from within our local community. The surrender fees help us not only take on another resident financially, but helps pay for any medication or spay/neuter surgeries they may need.
Spacing
Please understand, we do not have unlimited spacing in our kennels. We wish we could take in every animal in need, but shelters must prioritize the strays in their service areas first before anything; as they do not have anyone to help them. Surrenders come second, and we can only accept them as we have space open up from adoptions.
Wait Period
The management team processes surrender forms, and ultimateley make the decisions on what animals we can take in at the time. This can take a couple weeks to process at times, as they have to see what animals we have come in, and what animals we have go out, and what space opens up in that time.
Surrender Form
Please Fill This Out Completely
If you have multiple pets, please fill one out for each pet you are wanting to surrender. If there are any questions on the form or your pet situation, please reach out to us either at 717-263-5791 or cvasmgr@cvas-pets.org.
