Service Hours
Thank you for choosing Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter to complete your service hour requirements!
Our community service volunteers are either tasked with helping clean the kennels, or assisting with groundskeeper work - all activities are to benefit the animals, and assist in their day - to - day care!
We work with Court Orders, Scouts, National Honor Society, schools, churches, and businesses to help fulfill your community service requirements.
Court Ordered Community Service
General Expectations
- Community service is service-based work only
- No playing with, socializing, or interacting with animals during working hours
- Tasks include cleaning, daily animal care, and assigned projects from the Office Coordinator
Eligibilty

Hours & Scheduling
- Start time: 7:00 AM, every day (Sunday–Saturday).
- Shift length: Minimum 3 hours → Maximum 5 hours.
- Once you clock out, your hours end for the day.
- You cannot leave the building and return while "on the clock."
Community Service Regulations
In an effort to ensure all parties are satisfied with the community service performed, please read the following regulations carefully and be sure you understand what's required before you sign up to help at the animal shelter.
If you do not feel comfortable with any of these regulations, please do not choose to perform your service hours with CVAS. There are many non-profit organizations in the area that require far less physical labor and regulations for their community service people. You will be expected to do far more than just play with dogs and cats. You will be expected to perform work exactly like a shelter employee.
If you decide to perform your service hours with CVAS and cannot abide by these regulations, you will be asked to leave and complete your hours elsewhere.

NHS/School/Church/Etc. Hours
General Expectations
- Community service is service-based work only
- You will be assisting in general housekeeping and yard cleanup
- Animal socializing will be available if there is time, for service hours we will prioritize chores over playing
Eligibility
- We take all service hours for schools, churches, businesses, etc.
- 15 - 18 years, a guardian must sign off on the waiver to have you here by yourself (if desired)
- Under 15 years, a guardian must attend with you

Sat: 11:00am to 3:00pm
