Dog Walking & Socializing
How this Helps CVAS
Provides dogs with the needed enrichment and exercise out of their kennel. Also provides valued socialization with people other than staff, helping them be prepared to meet their future family!
Goals
- Getting all adoptable dogs out at least once a day
- Providing them with the social skills to be confidant in meeting new people
- Maintaining CVAS's standard for training and behavior in our pups
Responsibilities
- Sticking to your Tier Level of dog, and knowing your limits
- Do not walk more than one dog at a time
- Always ask for help if needed
- Clean up after dogs - feces and toys
- Report to kennel techs any concerns of dogs health, behavior, or safety
Positive Experience
This program enriches the lives of our dogs—and our volunteers. Many participants describe their time here as deeply therapeutic, offering a meaningful sense of purpose and belonging. Everyone who becomes part of shelter life shares a common thread: a genuine love for animals.
Being surrounded by people who share that passion, while watching a dog grow in confidence from intake to adoption day, is an experience that is both uplifting and profoundly rewarding. It's a privilege to be part of each animal’s journey, and that connection is what makes this work so special.

Hard Work & Dedication
Our dog volunteers play a vital role in not only enriching our pups’ lives but also maintaining consistent training and behavioral standards. While the work can certainly be joyful, it is not all playtime—dedication, patience, and resilience are essential to ensure no dog’s progress slips through the cracks.
There will be challenging days, moments of frustration, and plenty of trial and error. Yet the reward—watching a dog you’ve supported finally meet their forever family—surpasses every difficult moment.
Supporting each dog’s physical and emotional well-being is our highest priority. As a Dog Socializer, you will receive guidance on the essential do’s and don’ts of handling our residents, helping you prepare them for the bright futures that await.
