Day of Service/Group Volunteering
How This Helps CVAS
Group volunteer days provide valuable support across the shelter, helping us complete essential tasks that directly improve the comfort and well-being of our animals. Whether it’s cleaning kennels, organizing supplies, or spending time with the pets, your teamwork helps create a calmer, healthier, and more welcoming environment for every animal in our care.
Goals
- Assist with hands-on projects that enhance daily shelter operations and animal living spaces
- Offer safe, positive interactions that help animals feel more confident around new people
- Support our mission by learning about our work and sharing it within your group or community
Responsibilities
- Follow staff guidance to safely complete cleaning, organizing, or enrichment tasks
- Work together to refresh kennels, tidy shared areas, or prepare supplies for daily use
- Engage with animals in age-appropriate ways that support their comfort and well-being
Positive Impact
Group volunteer days bring energy, teamwork, and compassion into the shelter—making a meaningful difference in a short amount of time. Adult volunteer groups often take on larger projects like deep-cleaning kennels, organizing donations, and helping our dogs and cats enjoy much-needed playtime. These efforts lighten the daily workload for staff and create a cleaner, more stimulating environment for the animals.
Youth groups, such as Boy and Girl Scouts, play an especially important role in helping animals learn to feel comfortable around kids. Their visits offer gentle, supervised interactions that give young animals new experiences and help our more timid pets build confidence.
Each group brings its own strengths, and every visit leaves our shelter a little brighter, cleaner, and more connected to the community.

Community Enrichment
Day of Service volunteers help us extend our mission far beyond our building. When groups come in, they not only support the immediate needs of our animals—they also carry our message into workplaces, churches, schools, and local organizations. This shared experience helps spread awareness, encourages compassion, and strengthens community engagement.
For our animals, meeting new people provides fresh enrichment and healthy social exposure. Dogs enjoy new playmates and fresh outdoor time; cats benefit from different voices, faces, and gentle handling; and our smaller companion animals receive attention that helps them feel seen and cared for. These moments of connection help prepare them for future homes and give them a break from the routine of shelter life.
Your time, energy, and kindness during a Day of Service create lasting benefits for the animals and help us continue building a community that values rescue, compassion, and second chances.
